Not Always, This World Revolves Around You.

for me, by me.

Congratulations! Someone showed you a little kindness, and you started imagining a future they never promised you. Someone gave you their time, and you mistook a moment of connection for a lifetime of commitment. Someone became a part of your life, and you quietly assumed you would always be a part of theirs. How interesting. You've built an entire story around people who never agreed to play the roles you've assigned them.

Here's something you need to understand: not every connection is a commitment, not every feeling is mutual, and not every meaningful moment is meant to last. Someone can care about you without choosing you. They can miss you without wanting you back. They can wish you well without wanting a place in your future. People can remember what you meant to them without wanting to experience it again. Kindness is not a promise. Nostalgia is not an invitation. And history is not a contract that obligates anyone to stay.

But, of course, your mind has other plans. One message becomes a mystery. One delayed reply becomes rejection. One goodbye becomes a hundred unanswered questions. You examine every word, replay every conversation, and search for hidden meanings in things that might have meant exactly what they appeared to mean. Impressive detective work. Shame about the conclusion. Sometimes, the answer isn't hidden. Sometimes, you're simply refusing to accept it.

And yes, sometimes people realise someone's worth only after losing them. Sometimes, they learn how to love properly after they've already lost the opportunity to do so. Sometimes, regret arrives with a clarity that should have come sooner. But understanding your mistakes doesn't guarantee another chance to correct them. That's the part people struggle with. They expect personal growth to come with a reunion, an apology to come with forgiveness, and regret to somehow reverse the consequences of their choices. It doesn't work that way. You can become a better person and still never get another chance with the person who taught you why you needed to change.

Not every lesson comes with a second opportunity. Not every ending waits for you to be ready. And not everyone you lose is supposed to find their way back to you. People have their own lives to live, dreams to pursue, relationships to nurture, and battles you'll never know about. They are not supporting characters in your personal development. They are not standing still while you figure yourself out. They were living their lives before you met them. They continued living them while you knew them. And they will continue living them after you are no longer a part of their everyday world. Your absence may matter to someone without becoming the centre of their existence.

Read that again. You can be important without being irreplaceable. You can be remembered without being missed every day. You can have changed someone's life without being someone they want in it forever. And none of that makes what you shared meaningless. It simply means that something can be real without being permanent.

So stop rereading old conversations as if the past owes you a different interpretation. Stop turning ordinary kindness into a promise and silence into a puzzle that must have a hidden solution. Stop waiting for people to return just because you've finally understood what they meant to you. Sometimes, closure is accepting that you may never receive the explanation you want. Sometimes, moving on means letting a question remain unanswered. And sometimes, the most important thing you can do is stop making someone else's choices a reflection of your worth.

Because here's the truth: the world doesn't pause for your heartbreak. Time doesn't negotiate with your regrets. And life doesn't owe you a particular ending just because you finally understand the story. You're allowed to hurt. You're allowed to remember. You're allowed to wish things had turned out differently. But you're not entitled to someone else's return.

You are the main character of your life, not the main character of everyone else's. Learn the difference.

Some people will stay. Some will leave. Some will love you and still choose a life without you. And some will become strangers carrying memories you'll never share again. Let them. Not every goodbye is an injustice. Not every lost connection needs to be recovered. Not every door that closes is secretly waiting for you to knock again. And not every ending needs to be rewritten to make your story worthwhile.

Sometimes, you were just a chapter. Sometimes, the chapter mattered. And sometimes, it ended because it was over—not because the universe made a mistake.
So turn the page. Not to prove you've moved on. Not to make someone regret losing you. Not to become the person they wish they'd kept. Turn it because your life deserves more than an endless conversation with a past that can no longer answer you.

The world has never revolved around you. It doesn't have to. Your life is still yours to live.
